For this third staging of the City of Perth Ladies International, I am pleased to welcome back those teams who have competed the the previous events, whilst offering a warm Perth welcome to those teams making their debut in the competition.
With teams having extremely busy schedules this year, and a number of teams qualifying for both the Olympic Games, and the Ladies World Curling Championship, the event has been reduced to 16 teams, but we are taking the opportunity to trial the 5 rock rule which enters championship play at the beginning of the 2018/19 curling season.
I am delighted that we have attracted teams from Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, and England, who will challenge our top Scots teams.
The Organising Committee is assured of good ice and stones at Dewars Centre in Perth, and we are convinced that this will deliver great curling, and fantastic shotmaking, that will lead to exciting games for the players, coaches and spectators alike.
Once again we are indebted to our sponsors and partners in assisting this tournament to take place under the auspices of the World Curling Tour. Perth & Kinross Council and the Mercure Perth Hotel continue to sponsor the event, along with support from British Curling. Earnside Coaches look after the transportation to and from the airport, with assistance from Perth Honda, and we are delighted that a number of local businesses continue to sponsor teams.
To all of the Committee and volunteers, can I thank you for your unstinting help and support.
Finally, can I take this opportunity to wish all of the teams every success over the 4 days of competition, and ask that you take home with you wonderful memories of fun and friendship whilst taking part in our competition, and visiting our Fair City of Perth.
