I am pleased to welcome the players, officials, coaches and spectators to Dewars Centre, Perth for the fourth edition of the City of Perth Ladies International Curling Championship. It is great to see a number of teams returning, and I would offer a very warm welcome to those participating in the event for the first time.
It is unfortunate that the competition clashes with one of the new World Cup of Curling events being held in the United States of America, which has taken out a number of the top teams including our own ambassador, Eve Muirhead. However, with seven high quality overseas teams in the draw, we are confident that we will see a high level of skill and excitement over the weekend, and I am delighted that we have attracted teams from Switzerland, Russia, Germany and Norway who will provide a stiff challenge to the three teams from Scotland.
I know that the teams can be assured of great ice and good stones at Dewars Centre which should produce some great matches, and top class shotmaking. Once again we are indebted to our sponsors and partners who have assured the continuation of this tournament, which takes place under the auspices of the World Curling Tour.
Perth & Kinross Council and the Mercure Perth Hotel continue to sponsor the event with added support from British Curling. Earnside Coaches and Perth Honda look after the transportation to and from Edinburgh Airport, and Live Active Leisure partners the event in many ways. At this point, can I also thank the Umpires and volunteers who make this event happen.
Finally, can I wish all of the teams every success over the four days of competition both on and off the ice, and I hope that you will take home many lasting memories of the event, and the Fair City of Perth.
